Millwall striker gets the season off to a flying start
Aiden O'Brien has made a flying start to the 2016/17 campaign with a goal in each of Millwall's first two games as The Lions swept aside Oldham Athletic (3-0) in the League One opener and thumped Barnet (4-0) in the EFL Cup.
The 22-year-old striker, speaking to the News Shopper earlier this week, revealed that he wants to build on his performances last season and has set a target of 15 goals this campaign.
He said: "I got 13 last year, I want to get 15 this year and if I reach that before the end of the season then I'll push on to 20.
"But 15 is my target so if I get that I will be delighted."
Millwall scored 73 goals last season and bolstered their attacking options during the summer with the signings of midfield duo David Worrall and Gregg Wylde.
O’Brien, capped by the Republic of Ireland at U21 level, believes the new arrivals will have a significant impact at the Den.
"They are great lads. Everyone of them is great to be around and they fit in so well," he added.
O’Brien, who must surely be registering on the radar of Eire boss Martin O'Neill, is not flustered by the added competition in SE16 either.
"That's always a good thing for the players and the staff," he said.
"You would rather have four good strikers battling each other instead of just the one who won’t be having any competition.
"We've got a good connection so we're going to push each other."
