Millwall U21s are one win away from a Play-Off place

18 April 2016

Exciting end of the season in store for young Lions

Millwall U21s kept their hopes of a Professional Development League 2 Play-Off place alive and kicking with a dogged 0-0 draw at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon.

In a game of few real chances, The Lions were organised and resolute throughout the 90 minutes against an Owls side featuring trialists from Premier League Everton and Championship sides Burnley and MK Dons.

Millwall went into the game level on 50 points with second-placed Cardiff City, who boasted a better goal difference than the young Lions.

However The Bluebirds were beaten 2-1 at Huddersfield Town enabling Justin Skinner's charges to leapfrog their rivals into the runners-up spot on 51 points with the two teams now level on an identical goal difference of +18.

A victory for Millwall in their final Professional Development League 2 game at Ipswich Town on Monday 25th April (1pm) will secure second place for Skinner's side and the prospect of a Play-Off with the winners of the Northern Division.

Cardiff City's last U21 fixture is at Crystal Palace, also on 25th April, but with a 7pm kick-off. A draw or defeat for Millwall at Ipswich would leave The Bluebirds knowing that victory against The Eagles would be enough to clinch second place for them.
