Millwall defender could face Guatemala
Mahlon Romeo will be looking to pick up where he last left off for Antigua & Barbuda when the Benna Boys host Guatemala in the first of a two-legged 2018 World Cup Qualifier at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium today.
The Benna Boys, including Lions 19-year-old right-back Mahlon, booked their place in the Third Qualifying Round last time out with a dramatic 5-4 aggregate win against St Lucia.
St. Lucia, 3-1 up from the first leg of their clash against Antigua & Barbuda, equalised in the 81st minute of the second, putting them 4-2 up on aggregate and seemingly though to the next round.
Their opponents had other ideas, though. Tavaughn Harriette gave the Barbudans hope before Josh Parker’s goal levelled the score. With extra time looming, Aaron Tumwa hit a fourth for his side in the fifth minute of stoppage time, sending the Benna Boys bouncing into Round Three.
The Benna Boys and Guatemala have met on four previous occasions. Guatemala have won each time including a 1-0 victory in their last encounter on 12th September 2012 when another former Lion, Moses Ashikodi, came on as an injury-time sub for Antigua & Barbuda.
Following tonight's first leg game in Antigua, the second match will be played at Mateo Flores, Guatemala City, on Tuesday 8th September.
