Lions midfielder in the media spotlightJimmy Abdou scored his first goal of the season to set The Lions on their way to an excellent 3-1 home success against Rochdale at The Den on Saturday.
Midfielder Jimmy showed great composure to control a cross from Aiden O'Brien and fire home the opener after just four minutes to settle any early nerves. Although Peter Vincenti levelled for Dale on 43 minutes, further goals from Shaun Williams (44mins) and then Steve Morison (60mins) put the seal on Millwall's first home League One victory since a 2-0 result against Wigan Athletic in April.
Jimmy spoke to the media after Saturday's game, and today's Sun reported the match as follows under the headline Jim can Dou it:
Jimmy Abdou hits the World Cup trail next week - buoyed by the goal that helped end Millwall's home hoodoo.
The Lions midfielder is swapping South Bermondsey for Comoros - a small group of islands off the coast of Madagascar - to take on Lesotho in an 2018 qualifier.
Abdou and Shaun Williams both fired in before the break, either side of Peter Vincenti's 43rd-minute leveller for Rochdale.
Steve Morison's cool finish on the hour sealed the Lions' first home league win this term.
Abdou, 31, said: "We got the win so that was the main thing. But to get a goal was good for me. We are showing character.
"We responded well when Rochdale scored and our spirit will help us do well."
Dale chief Keith Hill said: "Elementary mistakes have cost us. We did the same last season."
