Ciara Sherwood: Time to show what we're made of

Millwall Lionesses midfielder in defiant mood ahead of Oxford clash

Midfielder Ciara Sherwood is confident of beating Oxford United when Millwall Lionesses return to FA WSL2 action at Beckenham Town on Sunday (2pm).

A run of three successive defeats in which the Lionesses have shipped 15 goals could have seen confidence take a severe dip, but Sherwood insists that there is no time to dwell as Millwall prepare to face an Oxford side two places ahead of them in the table.

"We've had a bad run during the last three games and we need to put a lot right," she said. "If we play the way we can against Oxford, we really do expect to come away with a better result.

"We need to start defending well again. We've shown we can do it against top teams in this league and we definitely won't be conceding as many goals in this game.

"This has been a tough period for the team but we have come through it as a team and, obviously conceding 15 goals in three games isn't great, but we are sticking together and we can't accept anything but a win against Oxford.

"We have got a tough end to the season against Doncaster and Reading, so we’re really looking at beating Oxford and then Aston Villa to make sure we progress up the table."

Once again, Millwall season ticket holders will be admitted free to the game at Eden Park Avenue, Beckenham BR3 3JL. Tickets are priced at £5 adults and £2 concessions.

Manager Dan Mlinar welcomes back key midfielder Ashlee Hincks from suspension, plus left-back Frankie Strugnell and goalkeeper Sarah Quantrill from injury.
