Coach looks on the bright side after rare Elite Development Squad defeatMillwall U21s slipped to a first Elite Development Squad home defeat of the season as goals either side of half-time from Jake Charles and Philip Billing secured a 2-0 success for Huddersfield Town at Calmont Road on Tuesday afternoon.
Having recorded four straight wins on home soil - and been beaten just twice in all competitions going into this match - it was a rare taste of defeat for Justin Skinner's young charges.
Fielding a team that included just one player over the age of 21, midfielder Lee Martin, a young Lions side gave their all but were undone by goals from Charles (18mins) and then a second from Danish midfielder Billing nine minutes into the second-half as Huddersfield made it five wins on the spin.
"Huddersfield are the best team we have seen this season in terms of the organisation and way they played," said manager Justin. "They caused us a few problems and overall we could have no complaints about the result.
"It was pleasing to see three youngsters - Harry Girling, Noah Chesmain and Mikael Ndjoli - involved and another U18, Ebere Eze come on. In that respect it was more good experience for them and another positive to draw on.
"Huddersfield capitalised on a couple of half mistakes by us, but credit to the lads here, they kept going. I couldn't fault their attitude or commitment. Even when the game was slipping away they kept fighting for each other, produced some decent moves and their approach was spot on.
"We have had a decent run this season and maybe the result was a little reminder. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say that it's not going to be your day and today was one of them. Yes, it is nice to win games, but the development of the players is first and foremost the priority.
"We will sit down over the next couple of days, analyse the game and the players will learn from this."
Team: Girling, Romeo, Chesmain, Powell (Parr), Nelson, Mbulu, L. Martin (Eze), Wood, Pavey, Ndjoli, Twardek. Subs not used: Parr, Sandford, Brown.
