Millwall shows support for Sir Bobby Robson charity auction

16 November 2015

Neil Harris donates unique prize

Millwall have joined forces with some of the biggest names in world football to support an online charity auction in memory of Sir Bobby Robson.

Bidding on the Sir Bobby's Online Auction runs until the evening of Sunday 29th November with more than 140 incredible money-can't-buy items donated in memory of the legendary former England manager from the world of sport, celebrity and lifestyle.

Among the star prizes, Millwall have donated the chance to be a 'footballer' for the day, including joining in with the first team for a training session as well as sitting in on the technical analysis meeting between manager Neil Harris and his players.

The prize also includes starting the day with breakfast with Neil and his coaching staff at Calmont Road, lunch with the players and, generally, having the same access as the manager and players to all areas on a general working day.

The internationally-renowned auction has seen household names Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Wayne Rooney all join forces to donate priceless pieces of sporting memorabilia and lend their support to the Sir Bobby's Online Auction.

More than £700,000 has been raised from the auction since its inception four years ago and all money generated goes directly to helping the fight against cancer, most notably by the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, which the football legend set up in 2008 to support cancer projects and international research into the disease.

Other beneficiaries from this year are In The Game - the League Manager's Association charity, the GeeWizz charitable foundation and West Suffolk Hospital Charity.

The auction was the brainchild of Gina Long, a long-time friend of the Robson family, who said: "Sir Bobby was a colossal global figure in football and the love and respect people still have for him is reflected in the unbelievable money-can't-buy prizes that we are so fortunate to receive.

"Everyone has been so generous in donating amazing prizes from the world of sport, celebrity and lifestyle.

"There really is something for everyone. Please take a look and help us spread awareness of the Sir Bobby's Online Auction which we hope will raise an amazing amount of money for some wonderful and worthwhile causes, both nationally and regionally."
