Midfielder agrees a contract extension

Midfielder Ben Thompson has today penned a contract extension that keeps him at The Den until the summer of 2016.

Ben, 19, has featured regularly for Millwall U21s and was seconds away from making his Championship debut at Wolves last weekend, only for an injury to striker Jamie Philpot see another Academy graduate, Alfie Pavey, make his first appearance instead.

"I was buzzing, I couldn't wait to get on and had to look at Powelly who said to me to calm down," said Ben, looking back at Saturday's Molineux trip. "I was standing on the touchline and Chopper said wait a few seconds as Jamie was hobbling a bit. Alfie went on instead. I was delighted for him but devastated at the time, but I can look back now and laugh."

Having come so close to making his League debut during the 2014/15 campaign, Ben is determined to kick on and establish himself in the senior squad over the coming year.

"It's been a good season for me personally, but going down is not the best," he added. "I made my debut against Southampton in the Cup which was the best feeling I have ever had and also now signed a new deal, which is fantastic.

"I can't wait to start the new season - hopefully get my League debut - and really push on from there."
