Six of the best for Lionesses

Millwall secure 2-2 draw with Yeovil Town

Millwall skipper Dionne Lennon insists her side are satisfied with their start to the FA WSL 2 season, after their fifth draw of the campaign - a 2-2 result - against Yeovil Town at The Den.

The Lionesses twice came from behind, with Naomi Cole burying a second-half penalty to level after Corinne Yorston had put Yeovil in front from the spot herself.

Natasha Knapman had headed home in the first-half for the visitors, but her effort was cancelled out before half-time by Chelsea loanee Rosella Ayane's fine strike.

The result maintains Millwall’s unbeaten start to the season in the FA Women's Super League, and a contented Lennon was also impressed with the contribution of debutant Ashlee Hincks, who arrived from Gillingham last week.

"We're happy with a draw of course, it's always better than losing," she said. "We did come here obviously wanting the three points, but we knew it would be a tough game and we're still unbeaten in six, we'll take that.

"I think any team in any league in the world would be happy to be unbeaten, it's unfortunate that we keep getting draws but it's better than losing.

"We made a new signing this week in Ashlee, I think she brought a lot more movement up front, brought a lot of other players into the game.

"She's come in, only trained with us for a couple of sessions and made an instant impact, and I think to do that on your debut is absolutely fantastic.

"We got a lot of joy down the left. I think they played three at the back, so we tried to exploit those areas, and that worked really well.”

Meanwhile Yeovil manager Jamie Sherwood admitted he was also pleased with a point, despite the Glovers’ three-game winning run coming to an end.

He said: "Of course we're disappointed, but we'd be more disappointed if we were not creating chances.

"Unfortunately the keeper's done well. We said before the game how good Sarah (Quantrill) is, she's a quality keeper and she's done what goalkeepers are paid to do.

"I thought it was a good battle. Millwall are a strong, well-organised side and we've come to The Den and got a draw.

"Both sides created chances but both managers will be happy with a point. I should think for the neutral it must have been a good game to watch too."
