Millwall boss Harris "absolutely delighted" to see Marquis extend his stay

Lions manager Neil praises young striker's character and mentality

Millwall boss Neil Harris says he is "absolutely delighted" that John Marquis has signed a new contract at the club.

Marquis, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Gillingham during the second half of the 2014/15 season, scoring eight times, has put pen-to-paper on a new one-year deal which also includes a potential 12-month extension.

And Harris, who has played with as well as coached the 23-year-old striker, says Marquis is determined to succeed at Millwall.

"I'm absolutely delighted that John has signed his new deal," Harris told millwallfc.co.uk.

"I watched him on many occasions during his time at Gillingham and he put in some top performances. John has shown he has what it takes to score regularly at the level we're going to be playing at.

"He has a great character and is a real winner. John's attitude is fantastic and I know how determined he is to play and score goals for Millwall.

"He is a different type of striker to what we've already got at the club and is another piece in the jigsaw we are looking to put together.

"I'm pleased to get this over the line and hopefully we will have more on new signings and current players extending their contracts soon."
