Dan Mlinar: We'll give it everything

Lionesses boss looks forward to FA Cup Fourth Round clash at Portsmouth

Pompey Ladies are currently flying high in the FA Women's Premier League South and sit second in the table, just four points behind current leaders Cardiff City, with two games in hand on the Welsh side.

Lionesses boss Dan Mlinar takes his promising young side to Portsmouth Ladies on Sunday aiming to book a place in the FA Cup Fifth Round.

"We have heard a lot about them and they are a very good side indeed," he said. "Ini Umotong and Charley Wilson alone have scored 33 goals between them so they are a real threat.

To date, they have only lost one league game during the 2014/15 campaign and Mlinar knows his side will be in for a major test on Sunday.

"As a team they have scored over 100 goals in their 24 League and Cup games this season, so there are goals throughout the side. We know that we will have to work very hard to get something from the match.

"One of our main focuses throughout pre-season has been on defending as a team, so Sunday's game will be another chance to see how far we have progressed in that department."

Unusually for the south coast side, Portsmouth come into the game on the back of a defeat, having lost at home to Sheffield FC in the Premier League Cup. So is it a good time for Millwall to take them on?

"They will be looking to bounce back and put on a performance in front of their home supporters," added Dan, "So we need to be aware of that. They are genuine contenders for promotion from the Premier League to the WSL at the end of this season so this could be a League fixture for us next year.

"I am expecting a very close and competitive game and we need to make sure that we make them work. We know that they have a very attacking style and they will put us under pressure so it is important that we ask them some questions ourselves.

"Having said that, Leeta Rutherford plays at the heart of our defence and she was with us last season so we know it won't be easy to get past her. Most importantly we just need to make sure it's a good Cup tie and that whichever team ends up in the draw on Monday has had to really earn their place."

The match takes place at Fareham Town FC, PO14 1RH with a 2pm start.
