Millwall players ease themselves in but heat will soon be onHaving been eased back into training in the first couple of days, the Millwall players can expect the heat to be turned up over the next couple of weeks as the coaching staff seek to get them up to match fitness before the friendlies kick-off at Bromley on 14th July.
Lions boss Neil Harris explained the thinking behind Millwall's pre-season programme.
"The first couple of days are quite important as we welcome everyone back and integrate the new faces," he told millwallfc.co.uk
"The squad has changed significantly with so many players leaving at the end of last season, the likes of John Marquis and Fred Onyedinma returning from loan spells elsewhere, Joe Martin joining us from Gillingham and a number of the younger players joining the group.
"To start with we then assess the players' fitness, strength, movement etc. to find out what shape are they in. It soon becomes apparent who has been working in the summer and who hasn't!
"I like the look of our pre-season. We have a good mix of fixtures and have made progress with some signings and new contracts while we will have to be patient waiting for others.
"We have a very competitive healthy squad and the majority of the players I picked towards the end of last season are still here.
"We will learn over pre-season what we still need, but I want a tight squad where everyone is involved. If we need to add then we can do".
