Chopper looking for different mix in squadNeil Harris says Lions fans can expect to see a more youthful look to the Millwall squad this season but is set to find a balance with experienced players to help the youngsters flourish.
The likes of Fred Onyedinma, Sid Nelson, Jack Powell, Aiden O' Brien, Ben Thompson, Mahlon Romeo and Jamie Philpot are amongst those vying to become senior squad regulars in 2015/16 and Chopper recognises that patience will be required as they grow and develop into the finished articles.
"Young players tend to be a bit hit and miss in the early stages - I certainly was," he said.
"However, we have some very talented lads here who will be key to the successful future of this club, so we have give them time and surround them with some more senior players of good character.
"Joe Martin is exactly that sort. I've seen him a lot over last couple of years, he's attack-minded, full of energy and provides accurate delivery into the box from set plays. More than that, he is an excellent pro, dedicated to his sport, has a good termperament and will be a proper role model for the youngsters."
Jimmy Abdou (30), will fulfil a smiliar role, but in contrast to last season, with the exception of David Forde (35), the remainder of the first team group are in their early to mid-20s.
"It's my choice to go this way," explains Chopper. "The make-up of the group will be very different this time round, with so many players leaving at the end of last season. It will be a smaller squad and I'm hoping to add a couple more in the near future if I possibly can.
"At 22 Jordan Archer is a good acquisition who we had to work very hard to prise away from Spurs. He already has over 40 senior appearances to his name and I see him as a genuine contender for a first team spot this season.
"It is no secret that I want to bring in another striker so that we have four or five with different attributes competing for places. Anyone we add has to suit us and the dynamic of the dressing room so I won't be rushed into anything at this stage."
