It's time to deliver say John and AidenYoung strikers John Marquis and Aiden O'Brien are relishing the opportunity to spearhead Millwall's League One challenge over the coming ten months, and both know that the pressure is now on to take their careers to the next level.
Boss Neil Harris has made no secret of the fact that he wants four senior strikers challenging for first team places, and is targetting another experienced front man to add to the aforementioned duo plus Lee Gregory and rookie Jamie Philpot, who made a scoring debut in the final game of last season.
At 23 and 21 years of age respectively, John and Aiden are now ready to build on the potential they showed as 'promising youngsters,' and both have already given notice since the turn of the year that they are ready to step up to the plate.
Remarkably, Marquis now has over 100 senior appearances under his belt for Millwall and during a number of loan spells at Torquay, Cheltenham, Northampton and Portsmouth, amongst others. But is was at Gillingham, last season, where he really began to find his best form, netting eight goals in 18 starts for the Kent club.
He said:"On the back of that loan spell I really wanted to come back here and play. I can't wait to get cracking and prove that I'm capable of playing and scoring at Millwall.
"Last season I learned a lot about my own game. I was fit, sharp, and playing week-in week-out as part of a two man strike-force.
"My confidence is now high after that experience, and playing under Neil Harris, who has been a great help to me during my development as a player, I'm really looking forward to this season."
Aiden, who formed a promising partnership with Gregory under the guidance of Chopper in the latter part of last season, scoring twice in the process, is similarly determined.
"I have now had a taste of it and I need to kick on" he admitted. "I see this one coming up as my first proper season as a pro' and I'm aiming for double figures in terms of goals."
Neither John nor Aiden is under any illusions that fulfilling their goals will be easy, both both are prepared to put in the workload necessary, and are thrilled that they have the backing and support of the club's all-time leading scorer.
