Upson relishing more senior role in Millwall's new-look squad

10 July 2015

Midfielder Ed keen for the 2015/16 season to get underway

Ed Upson is relishing the responsibility of becoming one of Millwall's more senior squad members.

The promotion of several Academy graduates into the first team set-up over recent months has helped to shape a much more youthful squad and Upson, despite still being just 25 himself, is now one of the more experienced players at the club.

"It is a responsibility I have got to take on along with a lot of the other lads that aren't old but are now seen as the senior pro's," he said.

"It's just another part of football and another responsibility to take on and look after the younger lads to make sure everyone is doing it right."

The midfielder, who made 28 appearances for The Lions in 2014/15, believes he and his team-mates have put last season's disappointment firmly behind them as they plot a successful campaign in League One.

"There is a good atmosphere around the group with a lot of camaraderie at the moment," Upson added.

"The rustiness has gone and everyone is looking really good and sharp.

"We have had long meetings and spoken about our aim for the season. We're really excited."
