Millwall link up with Wigan Warriors to bring the Super 8s to London

29 July 2015

Rugby League comes to The Den this September

Millwall Football Club is delighted to announce that Rugby League giants Wigan Warriors will play their Super League Super 8s home game against Catalans Dragons at The Den on Saturday 5th September (3pm).

The ground-breaking initiative sees Wigan Warriors become the first club to take a Super League game on the road to London, while The Den will host its first-ever Rugby League match.

Lions Commercial Director, Alan Williams, said: "This is a hugely exciting agreement for Millwall Football Club and is one which bodes very well for the future.

"The Den has hosted several large sporting events in the past, most recently the international football friendly between Australia and Ecuador in March 2014, but to stage a Super League Super 8s game in partnership with a Rugby League club as prestigious as Wigan Warriors is a special moment in the stadium's 22-year history."

Wigan Warriors already have a long and successful history in the capital, most notably through their record number of Wembley appearances and London-grown star players including Martin Offiah, current England internationals Dan Sarginson and Tony Clubb, and numerous converts to the Rugby Union international scene including Andrew Farrell, Shaun Edwards, Jason Robinson, Chris Ashton and Owen Farrell.

Further details about the game will be announced in due course.
