Defender Alan speaks after FA Cup Third Round exit
Alan Dunne says that Millwall fans deserve better after The Lions were dumped out of the FA Cup following a 4-0 Third Round replay defeat to Bradford City.
Ian Holloway's side were reduced to 10 men after just six minutes at the Coral Windows Stadium but Dunney, speaking to millwallfc.co.uk, believes that is no excuse for the team's overall performance.
"As players we have a responsibility once we cross that white line to do our jobs and play with pride, commitment and passion for the cause," he said.
"Unfortunately losing Mark Beevers so early in the game and then going a goal behind little more than a minute later was a big blow, but that does not in any way excuse our performance over the entire 90 minutes.
"On behalf of the players I would like to extend the apology to supporters because they deserve a lot more than what we are offering up at the moment. We understand the frustration and hurt in the stands and it is about time we put things right.
"The manager and his coaching staff have been excellent with us and done all they can to take us forward. We are letting the fans down at the moment, as well as the manager and the chairman, and it is time to stop feeling sorry for ourselves and man up.
"Last season we managed to pull ourselves out of danger when it looked like all hope was lost and we are going to have to do the same this time around. Luckily we have more time to make things better but that will only be to our benefit if we start improving now."
