Martinez misses Blackpool return

10 January 2015

Midfielder ruled out of clash with former club

"Nicky will be revised by the specialist again next week if he passes the tests and his scans come back clear, he will start the end phase of his rehab. We will update the situation on Nicky after this review."

"Carlos Edwards and Nicky Bailey spent the week at St George's Park. Nicky is working very hard building up his strength and endurance in both calfs. He will not be allowed to return to training until the calfs can cope with a battery of tests devised for them.

"Angel Martinez has picked up a mild quad strain, but we expect both Angel and Paris to return to training before the end of this month.

"Any new player is usually trying a little harder to impress their new manager and team-mates. A similar scenario occurred a few seasons back when Josh McQuoid was injured in training when he first joined after colliding with Danny Shittu.

"It is always a worry when a new player joins in training as they adjust to a number of factors, including the intensity and pace of training - and which of their new colleagues to avoid tackling!

Lions physio Bobby Bacic confirmed that he will not, however, be able to feature and told millwallfc.co.uk: "We have picked up two short-term injuries in training this week. Paris Cowan-Hall was involved in a collision which has left him with a torn muscle in his calf.

Midfielder Angel had a successful three year stint at Bloomfield Road but joined Millwall earlier this season and was clearly looking forward to meeting up with his former club today.

Angel Martinez has been ruled out of an emotional return to former club Blackpool after sustaining an injury in training this week.
