Pro boxer Boylan helps injured stars

Professional Boxer and Millwall fan Ricky Boylan was at Calmont Road on Thursday morning to provide a strength and conditioning session for some of the players currently sitting on the sidelines through injury.

Speaking to Lions Player, Boylan said: “I’ll be putting a few of the boys that are injured through their paces; on the pads, and with a few boxing exercises just to get their upper body moving and working.”

“I suppose for the ones who are injured long-term it's just to keep them motivated. When you’re on the sidelines and can’t join in with your other team-mates you need that motivation.

“Boxing is a lonely sport and you have to dig deep, but in the gym with the camaraderie it's brilliant. That’s what gets you through those hard training sessions and it seems like the boys at Millwall here have got that.”

Carlos Edwards, who got the gloves on along with Paris Cowan-Hall, said: "I'm a bit of a boxing fan so this opportunity is one I was looking forward to. As much as anything else, it makes a break from the usual routine and I'm always someone who likes to try something new."
