Report | Watford U21s 0-1 Millwall U21s

15 December 2015

Full-time from Clarence Park

Mikael Ndjoli scored his fourth goal in six games as Millwall U21s maintained their superb run of form with a hard-fought Elite Development Squad victory against Watford at St Albans City FC's Clarence Park on Monday night.

The young Lions striker hit a slightly fortuitous winner in the second-half, with his header deflecting off Matt Hill and into the back of the net to secure a seventh win in eight starts for Justin Skinner's charges.

After an even start it was the hosts who carved out the first chance of the game when Connor Smith slipped the ball to Alex Jakubiak, but his shot was blocked by Keaton Wood.

Watford went close again on the half-hour mark, but on this occasion Mahlondo Martin lashed over the bar from 12 yards following neat footwork by Jakubiak to create the opening.

At the other end Millwall started to ask questions of the home defence and Ndjoli wasted a glorious opportunity to break the deadlock, but contrived to blast wide with the goal gaping.

However the young striker, who scored two goals in Millwall's last away game at Swansea, was perfectly placed to net what proved to be the decisive goal 10 minutes into the second-half.

Ebere Eze was the provider, volleying across the goal and picking out Ndjoli, whose header flew into the back of the net via a deflection off the unfortunate Hall.

Lions keeper Tom King was rarely troubled as his well-organised team-mates expertly snuffed out the Hornets as an attacking threat.

Jakubiak and George Byers both saw efforts flash wide of the mark as Watford were restricted to trying their luck from distance.

On the one occasion King was called into action, the keeper did well to thwart Jakubiak with a save low towards his left-hand post, but there was to no way through and Millwall comfortably saw out the game to record a third successive away win.

Millwall: King, Romeo, Wood, Mbulu, Chesmain; Abdou, Farrell, Eze, Twardek; Ndjoli, Pavey (Mulrooney-Skinner, 80mins). Subs not used: Parr, Girling, Donovan, Brown.
