Preview | Burton Albion v Millwall

1 December 2015

Read our guide to Tuesday night's League One game

Millwall play Burton Albion for the first-ever time in a Sky Bet League One encounter at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night (7.45pm).

The Lions will climb into the top six with an away victory but face a stern test against The Brewers, who are third - seven points ahead of Millwall - and would go top of the table with a home win.

Burton, managed by Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, have won six of their nine home games in League One so far, losing just once, but The Lions have been defeated just twice on the road up to this point and have won four of their nine matches away from The Den.

Neil Harris' side beat Bury 1-0 at The Den in their last League game but the Millwall boss will be looking for an improved performance on their most recent away outing, a slender 2-1 loss to Fleetwood Town last Tuesday night.

Burton go into Tuesday night's fixture with four wins from their last five League games, including a 5-1 thrashing of Colchester United over the weekend.

What the managers say

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: "The table will take care of itself. We take one game at a time and make sure we are ready and competitive. It will be very tough. Millwall are on a good run and have very experienced players. They came down from the Championship and want to go back as soon as possible. We will have to match them and take the game to them." Neil Harris: "Jimmy has put together a very hard-working, well organised and well drilled Burton team. On top of their strong work ethic they have some real quality players in their squad so we know how big a test it is going to be going up there. But it is a challenge that we are very much looking forward to and I'm keen to see how the players respond to what happened in the last away game."

Team news

Hasselbaink will have to make do without Zeli Ismail, who is suffering with an ankle injury, and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff because of a groin problem. There are doubts over Robbie Weir (foot) but Damien McCrory, the left-back, will start the game according to the Burton boss.

Millwall will be without Byron Webster, who serves a one-game suspension after picking up his fifth booking of the season late on in the win over Bury last weekend. That could mean a return to the centre of defence for Sid Nelson, though Joe Martin, who missed Saturday's victory with a one-match ban of his own and is available again, can also fill in alongside Mark Beevers if called upon.

Carlos Edwards has been out of action with a hamstring problem since the Johnstone's Paint Trophy win over Plymouth Argyle and will be assessed in training leading up to Tuesday night's game.

Steve Morison started Saturday's game on the bench after suffering with illness in the latter stages of last week and so, like Edwards, will be monitored ahead of the clash with Burton.

Harris has confirmed that Jimmy Abdou is set for a return to training but also added that midfielder will not be available for selection in either of this week's games.

Tony Craig remains a long-term absentee.

Sky Bet have placed Burton at 13/10 for the victory which would take them top of the table while Millwall are available at 2/1 to earn all three points.

Burton duo Abdenasser El Khayati and Stuart Beavon are joint 5/1 favourites to be the first goalscorer with Millwall trio Steve Morison, Lee Gregory and Aiden O'Brien all available at 6/1. Mark Beevers, who has already scored four away goals this season, is a tempting 5/1 to find the net at any time.
