Left-sided player joins The Lions ahead of Saturday's season opener away to Shrewsbury Town
Millwall Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Shane Ferguson on a 93-day loan deal from Newcastle United.
The 24-year-old has risen through the ranks at St James Park and made his senior debut in a League Cup tie against Accrington in August 2010. Ferguson's first taste of top flight League football came in January 2011, as a substitute against West Ham, before he made his full Premier League debut three months later in a win over Wolves.
The left-sided player put pen-to-paper on a five-year contract at the end of that campaign and has since enjoyed two successful loan spells with Championship side Birmingham City, as well as a similar short-term stint at Rangers last season.
Ferguson, who was born in Derry, was capped by Northern Ireland at various youth levels before making his U21 debut against Scotland in November 2008. His senior bow came less than a year later, in June 2009, when he came on as a late substitute against Italy. Ferguson has since earned an additional 17 caps for his country, scoring once.
Lions boss Neil Harris told millwallfc.co.uk: "We're delighted to be getting Shane on board. He is a player who has picked up vast experience in recent seasons playing in the Premier League, the Championship and at international level.
"Shane is a great acquisition to the squad. He has natural left-footed ability and can provide terrific deliveries into the box.
"He is equally comfortable playing at left-back as he is on the left-wing so that kind of versatility will be very important to us, especially at a time when Joe Martin isn't available."
Ferguson will travel with the squad for this weekend's League One season opener away to Shrewsbury Town. He will wear the number 18 shirt.
