Admission free for Lions season ticket holders
Dionne Lennon insists Millwall Lionesses will come out with all guns blazing when they host WSL 2 leaders Doncaster Rovers Belles at The Den on Sunday (2pm).
The Lionesses have struggled to rekindle their early-season form since the FA Women’s Super League returned from the mid-season break, having picked up just one league point in the meantime.
However, Continental Tyres Cup victories over London Bees and Watford have seen improved displays, and now skipper Lennon wants that level of performance reproduced in the league.
“Doncaster are one of the favourites to win the league, but we won’t be completely defensive because we want the points too,” she said.
“We have got to be aware of key players; Courtney Sweetman-Kirk certainly falls into that bracket, she has been in great form.
“We are all a bit bemused as to why we have lost our form. We were doing well up until the break. We felt at that stage we just needed to add goals to our game. We have done that, but now we have been leaking goals at the back. So we just need to strike a balance.
“Now we just want to get as high up the table as possible. We want to do better than last year and show people what we can do.
"There is a talented squad here, full of young players, so we want to show people what Millwall are about and reach the heights we have not reached so far this year.”
There is certainly history between the two teams and it is 24 years since the Lionesses won the Women's FA Cup defeating the Belles 1-0. Millwall and Donny were chosen to play the first ever Women's National League in September 1991. The Belles won 4-0 on that occasion against a much changed Lionesses team.
Millwall season ticket holders will be admitted free and tickets are available to purchase on the day of the game from the ticket office at The Den priced £5 adults and £2 concessions.
