Match abandoned with Millwall winning at Charlton

24 August 2015

Rain stops play at Sparrows Lane with The Lions leading 1-0

Millwall U21s' match at Charlton Athletic was abandoned at half-time on Monday when torrential rain made the Sparrows Lane pitch unplayable.

The Lions, who twice recorded 2-1 victories against The Addicks in the Development League last season, were 1-0 ahead when the game was called off.

Jamie Philpot had seen a 20th-minute header smack the woodwork as The Lions pressed for the opening goal.

It duly arrived nine minutes later when Mahlon Romeo's corner took a slight deflection on its way into the back of the net.

However any hopes of building on that lead were washed away by an unseasonal downpour that left the pitch waterlogged.
