The boss rues missed chances as Barnet come out on top at The Den
Millwall boss Neil Harris couldn't hide his disappointment after watching The Lions exit the Capital One Cup following defeat to Barnet at The Den on Tuesday night.
Bees striker John Akinde, who was impressive throughout, converted an early penalty to give the visitors the lead. Millwall had a chance to level with a penalty of their own during the second-half but Steve Morison, making his first home appearance since re-joining the club last week, rattled the crossbar.
The striker made amends not long after, though, as he headed a Shaun Williams free-kick into the far corner to equalise for The Lions.
But it was Barnet who secured their passage to the Second Round thanks to Andy Yiadom's extra-time strike.
"I'm disappointed, mainly because when we pulled it back to 1-1 we didn't go on the win the game," Harris said.
"Some of our decision making on the ball wasn't quite right after getting the equaliser.
"The first-half was poor. We didn't keep the ball very well, we made rash decisions and, ultimately, if you give two bad goals away then you lose games.
"We watched the videos on Barnet, looked at the match reports and told the boys. We knew Akinde was going to be a handful and on his night he can be a real threat, which he proved.
"Barnet played with freedom and expressed themselves at times, and we didn't enough.
"But at the same time we had 18 shots from inside the penalty area and only scored one. That was a combination of many being blocked and some poor finishing. We have to be better than that.
"I wanted to win and the dressing room wanted to win. We're disappointed but we will take from the positives from the way we controlled the match in parts. We will also learn from the bad spells and the times where we were not in control and wasteful in possession.
"The boys have to learn how to control the tempo of the game here at The Den. That doesn't happen overnight but we should have enough characters in the side to know how already."
