Perfect pitch meets FA standards

Ollie: Facilities at the Lions Centre are superb

Millwall Community have continued to make a commitment to supporting grass-roots football by recently investing an additional figure of over £6,000 to ensure that the indoor 3G Astroturf pitch met the exacting standards for FA approved synthetic pitches.

This process, which has enabled the MCT to meet FA regulations, aims to protect players and clubs from using poor quality and unsafe pitches. This new approved register has now been put in place to ensure synthetic pitches meet a minimum standard over and above grass pitches.

Josie Clifford, Partnership Investment Manager at the London FA commented: "We are delighted that Millwall Community Trust 3G Football Turf Pitch has been added to the FA register. This will allow more clubs and teams to play affiliated matches in an area where there is great demand for pitches.

"Good quality 3G Football Turf Pitches replicate the playing characteristics of a good natural turf pitch whilst support intensive use. Naturally they are great assets for both playing and training and pitches on the FA 3G Register have successfully demonstrated that the pitch meet the required performance standards."

Millwall first team manager Ian Holloway added:"Facilities at the Lions Centre are superb and it is great to see that the surface meets the high standards set by the FA.

"Helping to improve the game at grass-roots level is so important and this is another big step for Millwall Community Trust, who do an enormous amount of work to ensure those in the local area have the platform to showcase their skills in an enjoyable environment."

The Lions Centre Indoor 3G Astroturf, which is now on the FA's approved 3G football pitch register for the next three years, can be used for U7s  to U10s League matches. A refurbishment of the playing surface, together with refurbished lighting and mini soccer goals, means that the local community will also be able to benefit from using the facility on a weekly basis throughout the year.

Groups that are currently using the newly FA approved football turf pitch include programmes such as the official Millwall term-time and holiday soccer schools for 6 to 11 year olds, Premier League Kicks for 12-18 year olds, 19-24 age football group, Millwall FC Academy, Millwall Community Trust Academy, SLAM, Millwall Girls FA Centre of Excellence, school sessions and tournaments, plus many private team bookings.
