Millwall-Camberwell Premier League Kicks team victorious

9 September 2014

Local boys from D'Eynsford estate do us proud

The boys from Camberwell were joined by an Arsenal Kicks team as well as a side from Cambridge to compete in a three-way tournament, all coming together to demonstrate positive community cohesion.

Another day, another Millwall Premier League Kicks success as local boys from the Camberwell D'Eynsford housing estate ran out clear winners in a tournament hosted and run by Arsenal Premier League Kicks team on a 'state of the art' astroturf facility in Highbury Fields, north London.

Before the football tournament got under way the young people took part in a 'stop and search' related workshop, delivered by local policeman John Marston who spoke about the reasoning behind the stop and search procedure, and how to deal with being stopped and searched by the police.

Once the football got under way the quality of the teams was clearly evident and the early matches were very tightly contested with few goals scored.

However, as the tournament progressed, the boys from Camberwell soon got into their stride and the quality of football on display was a testament to the hard work put in by the coaches of the teams during their weekly sessions.

The day also demonstrated the growing relationship between the Millwall Community Trust Premier League Kicks team and the Arsenal Kicks team; for the second time in a month they treated boys from the Millwall Premier League Kicks programme to a trip to The Emirates this time to watch Arsenal U21s Vs West Bromwich Albion U21s.

Millwall Community Trust community development officer Tom Rolt commented: "The group from Camberwell have demonstrated positive attitude, class, and loyalty over the past year, hence why they have been given the opportunities this summer to play games, tournaments, and attend the U21 fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

"Credit must go to the staff who have done the hard work week in week out and a team feeling which has been created, sustained and built. There is plenty more to come."
