Agg bags two as Millwall get back on track
Two goals from Lily Agg and a first strike of the season from Ciara Sherwood saw Millwall Lionesses clinch a comfortable 3-1 victory over Yeovil Town Ladies in FA Women's Super League 2.
Agg's brace, either side of a Laura Bray equaliser, helped put Millwall 2-1 up at half-time, before she turned provider for Sherwood to complete a morale-boosting win at The Den.
The Lionesses got off to a perfect start and scored in the first minute when Agg beat her marker on the edge of the box and fired a crisp finish beyond Rachel Simkin in the Yeovil goal.
Millwall keeper Sarah Quantrill then had to be sharp off her line to preserve the lead in the 12th minute, racing out to smother the ball as Helen Bleazard looked to beat the offside trap.
Bleazard then played an important part in her side's equaliser on 19 minutes, delivering a cross from the left to set up Bray, who slotted home.
The hosts continued to threaten and their attacking endeavour was rewarded after 32 minutes. A great overlap allowed Frankie Strugnell space to cross for Agg to head home her second of the game and send Millwall in 2-1 ahead at the break.
Yeovil enjoyed a good spell of pressure at the start of the second-half and were unlucky when Ellie Curson put Bleazard clear, but she was well tackled.
Another fine through ball put Bray in the clear on 51 minutes, her first shot was blocked and the rebound drew another excellent save from Quantrill.
The visitors' hopes of clawing their way back for a second time were dashed six minutes later when Agg centred for Sherwood to smash home her debut goal at WSL 2 level, and secure The Lionesses' first win in five games.
The closing stages also saw promising development team striker Shannel Peat make her first appearance for the senior team, coming on as a sub for Sherwood in the 75th minute.
Millwall: Quantrill; Mackie, Strugnell, Cole, Davies, Maple (Ali, 64mins), Sherwood (Peat, 75mins), Agg, Albert, Billson, Stenning (Anderson, 71mins). Sub not used: Gibbs.
