Lionesses fall to first defeat

27 May 2014

Kurti's side undone by Villa Ladies

Manager Alberto Kurti said his side 'lacked creativity' in their defeat to Aston Villa Ladies - the Lionesses first loss of the 2014/15 FAWSL 2 campaign.

Headed goals from Tasha Baptiste and Jade Richards in the 36th and 71st minute respectively did the damage, and despite improving in the second-half, the closest the Lionesses came to finding a goal was through Lily Agg, who fired straight at Villa's Caitlin Leach.

Despite seeing his side's unbeaten start to the season come to an end, Kurti believes the team are improving with every passing match.

"We had spells in the game but just lacked that creativity in the final third," he said.

"We didn't quite keep the ball as well as I would have liked us to and we conceded two soft goals. We're disappointed but credit to Villa, they are a hard working team."

Kurti added: "Things are improving week in, week out. The only disappointment today was just not putting the ball in the back of the net when we had the opportunities."
