Lionesses aim for Sunday special

16 May 2014

Millwall look to extend unbeaten League run

The Lionesses are back in League action on Sunday when the WSL 2 returns to The Den for Millwall's clash with Oxford United (2pm).

Having suffered their first defeat of the season in Wednesday's Continental Cup tie with Super League high-flyers Chelsea, the Lionesses are determined to maintain their unbeaten start in the League.

Millwall kicked-off their WSL 2 campaign with a 4-1 win over Durham and followed up by sharing the spoils with London Bees (0-0) and Watford (2-2).

However there is still room for improvement according to boss Alberto Kurti, who said: "We're working on conceding fewer goals and turning the draws we've been getting into victories. Hopefully we can do that against Oxford."

United have lost all three of their opening WSL fixtures, the last of which was a narrow 1-0 home defeat to Yeovil at the end of April.

Oxford have since suffered heavy defeats in the Continental Cup, losing 9-2 in the group stage to Bristol Academy and were then beaten 4-0 by Notts County.

Alberto added: "If you look at the performances from day one to the way we are playing now, we are improving and that is all I can ask from the girls at the moment.

"We take every game as it comes and we try not to get carried away. We will focus on the day itself and I've got faith that we've got some fantastic players, both in terms of the seniors, and their ability, and the youngsters that are coming through.

"The players are working hard to improve week-in, week-out, and to get to know each other a little better. The team spirit is fantastic and all of the players have dug in and are working for each other."
