Stepping up to the plate

28 March 2014

Garvan spells it out in Saturday's programme

Loan midfielder Owen Garvan says there is no more time for excuses as Millwall's bid to beat the drop enters its most crucial phase of the season so far.

Ian Holloway's men host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (3pm) and Garvan, speaking in the latest edition of The Lion, insists he and his team-mates are as determined as ever to turn their fortunes around.

"There is only so long you can say how well you are doing without getting points because this is a results business," he said.

"The games are running out now and we can't have any more excuses. We have to win the majority of the matches left and to do that we need to quickly get on a good run to give ourselves a chance.

"Nobody wants to be down the bottom of the League but we are where we are and our challenge is to survive it. When you're looking for players to step up to the plate, this is the perfect time.

"Over the next couple of weeks we as players have to go out there and do all we can to win us games. That's our only focus and we are determined to do it."

There is much more from Garvan in Saturday's matchday programme, which is a Dockers' Day special edition. This year, on our eighth annual Dockers' Day, we celebrate the achievements of the squad who took The Lions to the top flight for the first and only time in the club's history 25 years ago. In the programme we look back at the promotion campaign and that first season in English football's top tier.

As well as all the usual input from boss Holloway and skipper Paul Robinson, Millwall chairman John Berylson pens an update from the Boardroom. On top of that we hear once more from Merv Payne in The Fan's View, and there's plenty of content from Prostate Cancer UK, whose superb 'Men United' campaign we also celebrate ahead of kick-off.

Issue 21 of The Lion will be available around the ground as usual but you can also download the digital version from 9am Saturday onto Apple iPad and iPhone, on the Android market and via the Pocketmags app on Kindle Fire, Blackberry Playbook and Windows 8.

If you are on iOS or Android, search 'Millwall The Lion' in your respective App store to download, or if you are downloading onto Kindle Fire, Blackberry Playbook or Windows 8, visit the Pocketmags app, search for Millwall FC and go from there.
