Come early Saturday for Dockers' Day
This Saturday we celebrate our annual Dockers' Day with members of the 1987/88 promotion winning team (and one or two who featured in the First Division) being honoured for their achievements a quarter of a century ago.
Alan McLeary, Dave Mehmet, Sean Sparham, Jimmy Carter, Wesley Reid, Nicky Coleman, Les Briley, Terry Hurlock, Brian Horne, Paul Sansome and Kenny Cunnigham are amongst those who will be introduced on the pitch prior to kick-off where they will be presented with commemorative medals by Hazel Kitchener in memory of her late husband the legendary Barry, who passed away two years ago this weekend.
The former Lions stars will be meeting fans by the blue Millwall bus at 2pm, so make sure you get to The Den early if you want an autograph/photo or two with the men who made Millwall history (just after you've donated your Foodbank item to the MSC crew on the bus!).
Ironically, the class of 87/88 picked up the Second Division championship trophy before the final game of that season against Saturday's opponents Blackburn Rovers, although we will be hoping for a better result than on that particular day.
The job, of course, had already been done by then and the celebrations had well and truly started!
Look out for the special Dockers' Day features in Saturday's edition of 'The Lion', the Millwall v. Blackburn Rovers matchday magazine.
