Transfer update from Ambler

9 June 2014

Chief Executive gives the latest on search for new additions

Millwall Chief Executive Andy Ambler says boss Ian Holloway has been busy meeting with potential signings and that the club are waiting to hear back from the two players who have been offered new contracts.

David Forde and Lee Martin have just weeks to run on their current deals, but the pair are considering offers tabled by the club and Ambler hopes talks will be concluded soon.

"As with any renegotiation things take time," he said. "Fordey is out in the States at the moment with Ireland and Lee we've made an offer to, and he's away as well. I'm hoping that we can have some clarity with that over the next four or five days.

"We moved quickly to bring Carlos Edwards on board, which was good, so he's gone away knowing he is with us next year. Lee and Fordey, I hope, gets resolved this week, and I think the manager is looking at three, maybe four other targets. Our ideal situation would be to bring them in before we get to go on the training camp out in Portugal, but it doesn't always work that way. Players want to look at all their options."

Ambler, who spent the latter part of last week at the Football League's Annual Conference, also confirmed that the club has had an offer for one player turned town.

"The manager is meeting this week with a couple of out of contract players, and has had the conversation with Byron Webster as everyone knows. We're waiting on a response back from him and his agent.

"We've put in an offer for one player that has been refused at the moment but it is really early days. We've hit the ground running compared with last year as we have a manager and Mick Harford has been busy, even before the season finished, on potential new targets.

"The trip out to Portugal with the Football League was an opportunity to speak to other clubs and we're looking at a range of options."

Ambler also confirmed that the club have rejected an offer for defender Mark Beevers. Look out for an interview with the Chief Executive on Lions Player later this week.
