Raising the bar

3 July 2014

Great facilities inspire players to believe in better

Lions CEO Andy Ambler returned from Millwall's pre-season training camp in the Algarve excited by the prospect of the new season.

He said: "The players are responding magnificently to the wonderful facilities they are experiencing out there and the manager could not be more pleased with the progress they are making.

Ollie has raised the bar as far as all of us are concerned.

We have taken our squad to the same facility and are training on the same pitches as the Dutch team were using prior to flying out to Brazil for the World Cup, so that's the 5 star standard our lads are enjoying.

When they return home, the players will find the pitches at the training ground better than ever, and we have invested further in the surface at The Den in the hope that too will be the best it's ever been.

This is all symptomatic of the ambitions the manager and the whole football club have to move up to the next level.

We are determined to create the best possible environment for our players to go out and play to the best of their ability.

Hopefully too, when we are talking to potential new signings, they will talk to the lads they know who are already here, or look at our infrastructure, and think to themselves - 'Millwall is a club that's going places and I want to be part of it'.

These are very early days, of course, and we don't kick a ball in the Championship for another month yet. But the early signs in terms of the way the players are working and the group is bonding are certainly cause for optimism."

Before leaving Portugal, Andy interviewed Ian Holloway for a Lions Player exclusive that subscribers can view here
