Lionesses in Continental Cup action

4 July 2014

Cup action at Watford on Sunday and Arsenal to come

Millwall Lionesses return to Continental Cup action this Sunday with an away group fixture against FA WSL 2 rivals Watford Ladies at Berkhamsted FC.

The fixture is the teams' second meeting of the season, the first being our opening-day fixture of the new WSL 2 campaign.

After a keenly contested encounter the teams had to settle for a point apiece. Despite picking up an away point, the fixture holds bad memories for the Lionesses who lost saw star striker Emma Whitter pick up an injury that is set to rule her out for the entire season.

Millwall began their 2014 Continental Cup campaign with a brace of draws, 0-0 away to the London Bees before a late equalizer saw Reading Women earn a 1-1 result at the Den. Their latest group outing saw them suffer an away defeat to WSL 1 side Chelsea and the Lionesses will be keen to bounce back against Watford.

Captain Dionne Lennon believes the team has a point to prove after the Chelsea match and are keen to make their mark in this season’s cup competition, explaining:
“Any game we are involved in we want to do the best we can and get the maximum points out of it.

“The Continental Cup is a good competition and it’s a trophy at the end of the day. We’ve got a couple of games left to play in the tournament, so we want to win them. We drew 2-2 with Watford on the first day of the season and I thought it was a very good game for both the players and the fans. We are looking for something similar, but to go one better this time.”

The Lionesses will complete their Continental Cup group fixtures with a glamour tie against WSL 1 giants Arsenal Ladies at Beckenham Town next Sunday 13 July.
Prices for the match are £5 for Adults and £2 for U16’s.
