Chopper hails 'terrific' display at Billericay

Chopper delighted with hard-fought win

Neil Harris described Millwall U21s performance at Billericay Town as 'terrific' as goals from Aiden O'Brien (46mins) and Smith Tiesse (80mins) secured an excellent 2-1 victory on Saturday.

Billericay took the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Chopper's young team - including six trialists - kept their composure and produced second-half goals from O'Brien and Tiesse to remain unbeaten in pre-season.

"We scored two super goals," Chopper told "Billericay went ahead following a free-kick just before the break but we were level within a minute of the second-half starting. Jamie Philpot slipped a neat ball to Aiden O'Brien, he cut in and curled home from 18 yards. It was an excellent finish.

"Then with 10 minutes remaining Jamie played another lovely ball through to Kris Twardek, who had made an excellent run through from deep, and he unselfishly slid the ball to Smith who scored from close range.

"This was another excellent exercise for us; we played terrific football and I was really impressed with attitude and desire of not only the trialists, but the whole team. I was especially pleased with the leadership qualities shown by Keaton Wood, Sid Nelson, Denzel Gerrar and Aiden O'Brien.

"For me Aiden in particular was outstanding up front; his use of the ball was exceptional and he was unlucky not to have scored a couple more goals.

"We are having a very successful pre-season and again, have competed against and out-played a really strong non-league team. It shows the winning mentality that the players have when they wear a Millwall shirt. If the opportunity arises at first team level to have that mentality is important for their development.

"We want to develop players here who have right philosophy in terms of playing the way that Ollie wants, and also that winning mentality whether it is in a five-a-side game in training, in the U21s and most important of all, when representing the club at The Den.

"That is what we are working towards and we have a really good group here who are working so hard to do just that."

Team: Denzel Gerrar, Jeremy Walker, Sid Nelson (Kieren Farrell, 50mins), Ollie Lee, Smith Tiesse, Keaton Wood, Laste Dombaxe, Jamie Philpot, Greg Luer (Callum Webb, 75mins), Aiden O'Brien (Kris Twardek, 60mins), Jack Jeffrey.
