Young Lions and Swans share spoilsMillwall U18s 2 Swansea City U18s 2
Millwall twice clawed back a goal deficit as their battling qualities were rewarded with a share of the spoils in an entertaining Calmont Road encounter.
Saturday's game, which kicked off half an hour late after the Swans got held up in traffic en route, was played at a brisk pace with both teams showing plenty of effort and endeavour.
With both defences firmly in control from the opening whistle it took until the 20th minute before either side had an effort on goal, and fortunately for The Lions it was keeper Max Goodman who kept the scores level with a flying save to deny Swansea’s frontman Kyle Copp.
The visitors went close again towards the end of the opening half with an effort that smacked the woodwork, whilst at the other end Kris Twardek's free header went straight into the hands of the grateful Swans keeper.
In the final action of the first period Twardek was once again involved, this time sending a free-kick from just outside the area fizzing past the upright.
The second-half saw Swansea come flying out of the traps and it took an excellent stop from Goodman followed by a decisive Sid Nelson clearance to thwart the visiting team.
Swansea's spell of pressure eventually paid off on the hour mark when the dangerous Copp fired in a low drive that gave Goodman no chance.
Millwall responded positively and it was Twardek who grabbed the levller on 70 minutes, latching onto a neat Jamie Philpot flick and rifling the ball home.
The Lions continued to apply pressure with Kyron Farrell blasting a free-kick just wide of the upright and sub Alfie Pavey being denied by a brilliant save from the Swans keeper.
It was somewhat against the run of play that Swansea re-took the lead with just 13 minutes remaining. Once again it was Copp on target with a composed finish.
All was not lost, however, and the determined young Lions battled back for a second time in the 85th-minute. Philpot lobbed the ball into a crowded goalmouth and the ball sailed over everyone, including the keeper, and dropped into the back of the net to secure a share of the points.
