Photo special from our Open Day
Around 300 young Lions fans were handed an unexpected surprise on Tuesday morning when Zampa the Lion was introduced to his new furry friend Bolina the Lioness during a special Open Day at The Den.
The Open Day kicked off at 9am when the first team squad happily chatted to supporters, posing for numerous photographs and signing autographs on paper, posters and in one case, a pair of jeans belonging to a Junior Lion who had not worn - or washed - them since that memorable win against Bournemouth on the final day of the 2013/14 campaign!
Bolina was a little shy at first as she hid behind the dug-out, but with plenty of encouragement from our Junior Lions, she came out to join Zampa and was happy to pose for photographs - although signing autographs did prove a little tricky!
Members of the national press were also on hand interviewing manager Ian Holloway, plus players including David Forde, Alan Dunne, Lee Gregory, Ricardo Fuller and Matthew Briggs for Championship previews that will be appearing over the next few days in the written press, on TV and the radio.
Once pre-training formalities had been completed, the players warmed up before going through the paces of a full training session, with boss Ollie at times giving a running commentary on the PA system, explaining what he was asking the players to do with certain exercises, and why.
Ollie then joined his right-hand man Marc Bircham until the players finished their 90-minute session in front of an appreciative crowd who applauded loudly at the end of what proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable morning for all concerned.
