Defender Matt excited at new challenge
New signing Matthew Briggs says that the 'Ollie Factor' played a huge part in his decision to turn down interest from other clubs and pen a one-year contract at Millwall on Friday afternoon.Following a three-week trial at The Den during which he featured in pre-season friendlies at Dartford and Stevenage, it looked as if the former Fulham left-back was possibly going to sign for another Championship side.
However, the 23-year-old found the lure of playing for Millwall - and manager Ian Holloway - simply irresistible.
"All I really wanted to do was to play under this manager; he showed belief in me and that's why I had to come back," Matt told Lions Player.
"He knows what I can do, I know what I can do and I hope that he can bring the best out of me. We're going to work together very closely and hopefully I can push on this season.
"I was at Fulham a long time and came up through the ranks there, but these things happen in football. I've got a fresh start now, a manager who believes in me and I just have to play well for him. Everyone here wants to play for the manager."
