Five star Lionesses

Millwall thump Watford 5-0

Millwall produced a five-star display to thump Watford Ladies 5-0 as the FA WSL Development League heads towards the end of the season.

Sunday's game at Sun Postal FC saw Millwall start strongly and it only took 10 minutes for the first goal to come when Shirvea Edwards was brought down in the box by a Watford defender and the referee awarded a penalty. Skipper Ciara Sherwood stepped up and slotted home to put The Lionesses 1-0 ahead.

Millwall saw plenty of the ball and created more chances, leaving Lionesses keeper Gibbs as a virtual spectator for long spells.

However it took until the 65th-minute for The Lionesses to add a second goal. Edwrads was again involved, this time beating the off-side trap and calmly beyond the reach of the advancing Waford keeper.

That goal seemed to dent Watford’s confidence and Millwall took full advantage with a flurry of goals to put the result beyond any doubt.

Igbovboa added the third just five minutes later, firing home following a powerful run. Edwards completed an excellent hat-trick with her second goal on 80 minutes and third just five minuteds later to put Millwall 5-0 up.

Millwall Lionesses first team will hope to emulate the Development squad this Wednesday when they take on Watford FC in their FA WSL debut at Sun Postal, Bellmountwood Avenue, Watford WD17 3BN. Kick-Off 7.45pm.

Lionesses: Gibbs, Cowan, Stormer, Mackie, Strugnell, Maple, Lamb, C. Sherwood, Griffiths, Igbovboa, Edwards.
