Turning point

17 September 2013

Trotts on penalty drama

Liam Trotter admitted his equaliser on the stroke of half-time at The Den on Tuesday night was probably the turning point in Millwall's first win of the season against table- topping Blackpool.

The midfielder, making his first league start of the campaign, coolly slotted home from the penalty spot after Isaiah Osbourne was adjudged to have handled the ball, but was made to wait some minutes before taking the kick.

"Strangely I was quite relaxed about it," he said. "The wait probably helped calm me down and when the keeper started to go one way I knew exactly where I was going to put it.

I felt we deserved to be level anyway, but certainly that goal gave us a lift and we took it on and completed the job in the second half.

It is a relief to get that first win certainly and we can look forward to Saturday's derby at Charlton with confidence. We are a better side than our position suggests and we now have to build on this result and string a few more together."
