Young cubs slip to defeatMillwall U18s 0 Brighton & HA U18s 2
Two second-half goals from Charlie Harris and Jamie Horncastle secured an awayday success for The Seagulls in an entertaining clash at Calmont Road on Saturday.
In an open game, it was Millwall who made the early running and in the first couple of minutes frontman Jamie Philpot almost squeezed the ball home between the Brighton upright and goalkeeper Wragg having been played in by John-Prince Rylah.
A raid down the left then saw a fierce drive from defender Kyron Farrell parried by the visiting keeper and it took until the 15th minute for Brighton to go close, but keeper Tom Beadle was on hand to push the effort away for a corner.
Brighton's Harris had the best chance to break the deadlock on 22 minutes but his low drive flew wide of the target from close range. Thereafter the first half saw plenty of endeavour from both sides, but with the defences in dominant mood.
After an even start to the second period, Brighton made the all important breakthrough in the 57th minute when a blocked shot following a corner fell kindly for Harris and he made no mistake with a clinical finish from close-range.
Matters were made worse for Millwall 15 minutes from time when the team were punished for a second time from a corner, on this occasion Horncastle forced the ball home from virtually on the goal-line.
Following this setback the young Lions battled on and created several good chances to reduce the arrears. Substitute Lewis White was just inches away from prodding home a cross by Farrell and only an exceptional save by the visiting keeper kept out Philpot's effort following a one-two with White.
In the final minutes of the game Ben Thompson fired a free-kick just wide of the upright and Philpot headed agonisingly off target having connected well with a super delivery by Callum Webb.
