Young Lions shine against Tractor Boys

Millwall's Under 21s put in an impressive display at The Den on Tuesday afternoon, scoring three excellent goals in the process to record an emphatic 3-0 win against Mark Kennedy's Ipswich youngsters.

Steve Morison, Stephen Bywater, Paul Connolly and Shane Lowry added experienced to Neil Harris' fledgling group, but it was the younger players who took the plaudits with the quality of their finishing.

Niall McManus opened the scoring on 22 minutes when he curled home a right footed stunner from 20 yards, before Jack Powell more than matched it with an inch perfect 25 yard free-kick.

Morison might have added a third before the break, but his header from a Powell corner was cleared off the line.

The young Lions weren't able to maintain quite the same level of dominance in the second half, but Bywater in the Millwall goal was rarely troubled.

Charlie Penny put the icing on the cake eight minutes from the end when he brilliantly pulled a long clearance from Bywater out of the air before finishing coolly with his next touch.

Not surprisingly Chopper was delighted with his side's efforts saying: "Firstly I thought the senior players in the side to get a bit of a workout were first class and the opportunity for the younger lads to play alongside people like Shane Lowry and Steve Morison will have benefited them no end in terms of their learning.

All the goals were quality, but Charlie Penny's touch and finish for the third reminded me of Gianfranco Zola, it was that good.

Overall, though, I was really pleased with the attitude and desire of everyone which I thought was spot on."
