Lionesses sting the Hornets
The Lionesses Development squad produced a five-star show as they eased past Watford 5-2 in Sunday's League Cup encounter.
Millwall piled forward in the opening minutes and their pressure eventually paid off on 20 minutes when Shauni Griffiths smartly picked out Emma Sherwood, who was unmarked in the box, and she side-footed the ball into the net.
Watford hauled themselves level in the 38th minute from a clever free-kick which was smartly headed past Millwall keeper Nikkita Runnacles.
However The Lionesses responded and soon regained their lead just two minutes later courtesy of Steve Lamb's sweet strike from outside the 18-yard box that gave the Watford keeper no chance.
After the break Millwall picked up where they had left off and further increased their advantage to 3-1 with a wonderful Christina Douglas volley from Griffiths' 52nd-minute cross.
Watford got their second of the game on the hour mark thanks to a well executed 25-yard free-kick that fizzed past Runnacles, despite the keeper just getting her fingers to the ball.
Griffiths turned provider once more, this time from the left, where she beat three players smartly and found Shirvea Edwards who calmly slotted home the fourth goal.
Millwall made it 5-2 with five minutes remaining as Emma Plewa single-handedly dribbled past the Watford defence before coolly slotting past the onrushing keeper and into the bottom corner.
