A professional job

23 November 2013

Lomas pleased with clean sheet

Millwall boss Steve Lomas praised his side for a 'professional job' after a Scott Wiseman own goal was enough to overcome Barnsley 1-0.

The defender headed into his own net from substitute Liam Feeney's cross in the second-half, and Lomas was pleased to see his team hold on for a crucial three points at The Den.

"Defensively we did well and I'm very happy with the clean sheet," he said. "Once we got the goal we had to ride out any pressure and in the end the lads did a very professional job.

"It wasn't the most entertaining game by any stretch but we felt that it may be a little bit scrappy at times. But all today was about was getting the result and we did enough to earn that win.

"I have to give credit to the lads for digging in there. The crowd stayed with us and that commitment paid off when the game became stretched. The substitutions made a difference for us."

Lomas made five changes from the defeat to Bolton, some enforced, and hopes he can now begin to field a more regular starting Xl over the coming weeks.

"Liam Trotter has tweaked his groin so we will keep an eye on how that progress and Jimmy Abdou has taken a bang on the knee but will hopefully be back in training next week.

"We've been so unlucky with injuries so I'm pleased to have a few back in the likes of Scott Malone, Mark Beevers and Scott McDonald. We need to find more continuity in selection."
