New boss looks to his 'captains'

New Lions boss Steve Lomas believes the group of senior players currently at the club will set the standard for others to follow.
He said: "I think we've got a few captains here, Paul Robinson, Danny Shittu, David Forde, Alan Dunne, Liam Trotter and Jimmy Abdou for example. They will run the dressing room and if anyone steps out of line they will let them know.
As a manager, I believe in treating the players like adults. They will know what they should and shouldn't be doing, and I'll expect them to maintain those standards without me having to police them. However, if they step out of line they will be disciplined."
Talking about prospective signings Steve added: "We have a list of maybe 15 strikers, for example, that we are looking at. People have asked me about certain individuals, and I have talked about them in terms of what sort of characters they are and whether they fit in at this club.
At this stage, though, I also need to look at the group we have here already, talk to the senior players and start working hard from next Monday in preparation for the season.
I am aware that some, including David Forde, only have a year left on their contracts and I will be sitting down with those individuals to discuss their situations. I want to keep the best players at this club if at all possible, so it's up to me to convince them they have a part to play in an exciting future at Millwall."
