Steve looks forward to first pre-season game
Steve Lomas takes charge of Millwall for the first time when The Lions kick-off their pre-season friendly campaign with a game at League One outfit Crawley Town on Saturday (3pm).
Boss Steve, who has been in The Den hot-seat for five weeks, is relishing the prospect of looking at his squad in competitive action at the Broadfield Stadium.
Summer signings Jermaine Easter, Steve Morison, Lee Martin and Stephen Bywater are all set to be included in a squad that also features Lee Croft, John Paintsil and Nicky Shorey, all of whom have been training with Millwall this week.
Speaking to Lions Player Steve said: "I'm looking forward to it. Obviously we've had a couple of weeks of breaking the boys in, but the games start now and that's another step towards match fitness.
You want pre-season matches to be competitive, that's how you get up the level. All the teams we are going to play in pre-season are going to be decent."
Steve indicated that he will use the Crawley game as an opportunity to give his squad match minutes, with the possibility of players getting 45 minutes each.
"It's a work in progress really," he added. "We've had a couple of in-house games where the players have got 45 minutes under their belts, then 60 minutes and now we are back to 45 minutes in a competitive match.
We've got three games in a week so there is an opportunity for pretty much everybody to get some match time which is important."
Millwall squad: David Forde, Stephen Bywater, Alan Dunne, John Paintsil, Danny Shittu, Paul Robinson, Karleigh Osborne, Mark Beevers, Scott Malone, Nicky Shorey, James Henry, Liam Feeney, Jimmy Abdou, Jack Smith, Martyn Woolford, Lee Croft, Lee Martin, Josh Wright, John Marquis, Jermaine Easter, Steve Morison, Dany N’Guessan.
