Lions gearing up for season's opener

With the start of the Championship campaign just five days away, it's all systems go behind the scenes at The Den and at the training ground too, where the players are finely tuning their preparations for the visit of Yeovil Town this Saturday (3pm).

The rest of the players are either in full training or modified training plus extra conditioning work with Alan Pearson and Warren Cock our fitness specialists.

The modified training is due to us monitoring the work loads of the players and tailoring their training in a bid to avoid picking up overuse injuries.

The data we collect daily helps supports our knowledge that players who have joined training late due to international duty or because they are new signings, or those returning from operations or even observing Ramadan, need to have their training tweaked and exposure to games graduated.

We are on track to have everyone apart from Liam in full training before the start of the season.

We will still continue to monitor training loads daily as the season goes on due to the many variables within the squad.

These variables include age, extra matches (and travelling) due to international call-ups and those who have had previous surgery or are returning from injury or illness.
