Payback time for Jimmy

7 January 2013

What The Sun said today

Jimmy Abdou is happy to keep repaying Millwall boss Kenny Jackett, his Lions team-mates and the fans at The Den.
The crowd favourite has been overwhelmed by the support he has received while three-year-old son Ilyas battles leukaemia back in Marseilles.
And after stepping in as skipper in Danny Shittu's absence to steer a shaky Lions side into round four, Abdou said: "Ilyas is coming along well. He is home in France with his mother and the family. He is continuing his treatment and is stable, but it's a constant worry.
the gaffer has told me to go back whenever I need to. I've already had to miss one game and don't want to disturb the squad too much.
But he and everyone at the club are fantastic and have helped enormously."
The Lions secured a home tie with Aston Villa thanks to a deflected shot by Liam Feeney after 31 minutes.
But League One Preston left feeling hard done by after mounting a second-half fightback.
Striker Stuart Beavon said: "Once we got into the game, I thought we dominated and should have got a goal - if not two. But we let ourselves down in the first half."
