John lays down his Marq-er

28 January 2013

Striker aims for lift-off!

The Lions head to Barnsley tomorrow evening facing a Tykes outfit rejuvenated with three wins in five starts since the appointment of manager David Flitcroft.
John Marquis knows that one goal doesn't make a season - but he is determined to make sure that his FA Cup match-winner against Aston Villa proves to be the perfect base to lift off following a frustrating season and a half.
But for striker John, who completed his first 90 minutes for The Lions in over 12 months against Villa, it is an opportunity to stake his place in the side.
"It has been a long time since my last start and to play and score the goal to put us through to the Fifth Round was a really good feeling," he said.
"It's been tough being out injured; I had a couple of operations in 2012 and it was hard being injured seeing the boys doing well.
But I knew that if I worked hard and got back fit, I would always fancy myself to be in and around the squad.
Thankfully I got my chance against Aston Villa and I hope I can kick on from here, bring some more goals to my game and help to push the team forward."
